Fishing in these Maldives

The fishing season in the Maldives runs from September to April and offers stable weather and plenty of activity around the reef edges.

Throughout the season, there are good opportunities for targeting Giant Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, various grouper species, Red Snapper, and several tuna species that often hunt near the surface, using spinning tackle.

The tropical fishing remains consistently good for most of the period, meaning you can experience powerful strikes, explosive surface fights, and a variety of species regardless of when you travel within the season.

The guides always adapt the fishing to the current, wind, and daily activity, providing the best possible conditions for a successful fishing adventure.

Accommodation and Food

We're staying at a local guesthouse with fantastic service and staff who do their utmost to ensure you have an unforgettable experience. Amenities like free Wi-Fi, AC, toilet, and shower are, of course, available in all rooms. The food is prepared with love, and we eat local dishes every day. Simple, traditional, Maldivian food.

If you prefer not to stay at the Guesthouse, you can always extend your trip to a resort

fish species and bait choice

To succeed in tropical waters, choosing the right lure is a crucial part of fishing. Poppers between 100 and 200 grams are standard and provide the power and volume needed to attract large GTs to the surface. Stickbaits between 15 and 25 centimeters work excellent when fish are more selective or when you want to fish with a smoother and more subtle action. Colors like blue/silver, white, red, and pink are proven favorites that often trigger strikes. When fishing with poppers, you work the lure with clear and powerful retrieves that create significant splashes and substantial sound on the surface, which often provokes predatory fish to attack.

Jigging in the Maldives is an effective way to target tuna, GTs, groupers, and other predatory fish that hunt along deep drop-offs and current-swept passes. With speed jigs and slow pitch jigs between 100 and 300 grams, you can fish various depths quickly and cover large areas. The technique involves working the jig with rhythmic lifts and fast movements that imitate a fleeing baitfish. When predatory fish strike, the bites are often brutal and with full force, making jigging one of the most adrenaline-filled methods during your tropical fishing trip.
